LUMINOSITY BEYOND

Music Sparks

Music brings hope

Music Transcends Languages, Countries and Races

Know the benefits of music and the downside of music as it breaks the barriers around the world.

Music is life. That’s why our heart have beats.

Music will always and will always be a part of human life. Wherever we go, whether we just woke up, having a bad event, or it is just an ordinary day, people still listen to music. You must try to imagine life without music, and that, I think would make life boring and dull.

As Victor Hugo once said, “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain.” It means that music can bring people together regardless of race, religion, or language for this matter.

It is through music that different individuals can communicate thoughts without the need to understand the lyrics of a song, take “Happy Birthday” for example. Any person would surely recognize the song whether played in French or Spanish because well, it’s a popular song that is used as a medium for tradition and culture. People around the world have been playing the song for decades. Music is surely a universal language.

“Music has such a large impact on our lives! It crosses cultures, age groups and has an effect on everyone. It can make you smile, dance, sing, cry, instantly recall memories like they were yesterday and process emotion.”

–Abigail Saneholtz, Psy.D.

Music Can Be A Common Ground For Good Conversation

Music Makes The People Come Together

How many times has one created a special friendship with another because they listened to the same songs or liked the same artist? Many times. Apart from being a recreational tool and a means to communicate, music also brings forth beautiful relationships. It displayed friendships built on similarities in musical taste stand the test of time.

This is probably because we can associate the friendship with the song or the artist who creates a lasting impression on the mind. Remember that moment when you heard a song and remembered someone? That’s one good example of this.

“These individuals have not come to me in their finest hour, but despite feeling lost or broken, music provided them with the opportunity for expression and for experiencing safety, peace and comfort.”

Molly Warren

Take the case of the aforementioned “Despacito” and how it hit number one in a lot of countries in the world that don’t even understand Spanish, or Psy’s “Gangnam Style” that even reached America when they released it on YouTube years ago. How does one explain that?

The Downside of Music and People’s Different Perception

Sometimes, The Lyrics Don’t Matter

Music Hypes People Up

Luis Fonsi, the genius behind the popular dance hit “Despacito” once said in an interview, “music can be so powerful that it can bind and unite cultures,” and most couldn’t agree more. Sometimes, you only need to listen to the beat, feel it, and allow yourself to go with it. Interpretation is best made without the basis of words sometimes.

Downside of Music

The World Will Judge You For Who You Are

However, as I scrutinize our community, people are still shaming other music not only because of their languages but also with their culture and races. It saddens me a lot that despite the artists’ hard work, sacrifices, and effort in making quality music, people still find and look for the negativity of others, especially on how they are hating Korean music artists.

Wherein artists are being hated – especially Korean Artists

BTS ( 방탄소년단)  was massively hated by people because of their faces, culture and even their music. Some people are calling them ‘trashes’ for their quality music and deep meaning behind their songs.

BTS (방탄소년단;Bangtan Sonyeondan), also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band that began its formation in Seoul in 2010. The septet co-writes and produces much of their output. Originally a hip hop group, their musical style has evolved to include a wide range of genres.

What Haters are Saying

#BTS_10MillionAlbumSales BTS and KPOP is ruining the world. We need to stop this gay and trash music industry.

Five years since debut, BTS has faced as much hate as the love they receive now. Haters will hate, but we know BTS is beyond all that..

Pffft, I don’t even understand what they’re saying what’s the point of listening”

“They all look the same, how would anyone tell the difference between them?”

Feli Servus

“They’re so uninteresting, their music is literally just a trash.”

Despite the hates they are getting, BTS still pursued and produced more music that talks about the lives of people and artists like them, the hypocrisy of others, how society judges one another and of course, they thought us very well on how to love ourselves.

“Music transcends languages, countries, and races. Like a rainbow, I don’t care if you’re red, orange, green or purple, we love you, and you should also love yourself”

Kim Namjoom (BTS’ Leader and Rapper)

The point is, the reason why there’s a music, is for us to understand its meaning while being captivated with its melody and beat. We may have our own taste in music but bashing and hating will not make your music taste even better.

As a human being, what we must do is to preserve unity and goodness in our heart even in simplest thing — appreciation. Let’s appreciate the works of other people, our favorite artists, and even patronize our local artist and their song. Through music, simple express yourself, your sorrow, your joy, but most importantly, do not hate on other’s as what and who they really are. If that is their way of expressing themselves, on how they want to influence other people, let them be. But remember, beat and melody may be good, but lyrics and the meaning of the song has an adverse effect and influence on people.

If you can’t express how you feel, communicate through music.
